One Hundred Day Volunteer Certificate
These certificates were issued to thousands of men who volunteered
service in the armed forces. Unlike other facsimile documents that
are copied from original documents, these certificates are original
in that they were issued by the War Department and a clerk filled
in the information by hand. Not original are the signatures of Edwin
M. Stanton, Secretary of War, and Abraham Lincoln, President of
the United States. These signatures were tracings engraved onto
the plate and printed as part of the form document.
