The primary purpose
of the association is to facilitate the exchange of ideas and
methods among member organizations in Illinois who share goals
relating to preservation and interpretation of history, prehistory,
natural and built environments, and social, scientific, cultural
and/or artistic endeavors.

IAM supports
the work of the American Association of Museums, the Association
of Midwest Museums, the standing professional committees of each
of these organizations, and the American Association for State
and Local History. IAM also supports the work of local museum
networks across the State of Illinois and seeks to cooperate and
collaborate with all of these organizations.
