Purpose,
Eligibility, and Process
The purpose of the
Illinois Association of Museums (IAM) Awards Programs is threefold.
The Non-Competitive Awards
honor the work of member organizations in the areas of conservation,
preservation, exhibits, educational programs, periodicals, scholarly
and popular publications, promotional and informational publications,
audio-visual projects, and special programs. Each non-competitive
nomination is judged on its own merits in relation to the size,
assets, and staff/volunteers of the nominating institution. The
Competitive Awards recognize
the achievements and general excellence of their recipients in
the museum field. Only one institution or individual per category
per year will be honored. Anniversary
and Service Awards honor those member institutions and
their volunteers who have a long history of accomplishment.
Only Illinois Association
of Museums member institutions or individuals who work with/for
member institutions are eligible for nomination for either competitive
or non-competitive awards. The IAM Awards Committee reserves the
right to not award any given prize if, in their judgment, no qualified
candidate has been nominated.
All nominations received
with the appropriate postmark are reviewed by a committee of five
appointed by the president of the IAM Board of Directors. The
committee reserves the right to move a nomination into another
category if it deems the action appropriate, and it reserves the
right to reject any nominations that do not contain all requested
information. Committee comments will be forwarded to the nominating
institution, and all decisions of the committee are final.
