COMPETITIVE AWARD INSTRUCTIONS

A. Follow the General Instructions listed on page two of this brochure. Use the these nomination forms. No institution or individual may win the same award more often than once every five years.

B. Each nomination must contain 1) a narrative highlighting significant achievements, 2) supporting evidence such as newspaper articles, photographs, documents, etc. 3) three letters of recommendation, two of which must be from museum professionals who are familiar with the nominee but not part of the nominating institution.

C. Institutional award nominations must include the institution’s annual budget, by-laws, and mission statement.

D. Individual award nominations must include a resume and/or volunteer service record. Years of service and experience may have been served in more than one Illinois institution.

COMPETITIVE AWARD CATEGORIES

Institutional Awards

1. Volunteer Institution of the Year
No paid staff

2. Small Institution of the Year
Paid staff and budget less than $250,000 per year.

3. Mid-size Institution of the Year
Paid staff and budget of $250,001 to 600,00 per year.

4. Large Institution of the Year
Paid staff and budget of more than $600,001 per year.

Individual Awards

1. Lifetime Professional Achievement

2. Lifetime Volunteer Achievement
Twenty-five years of service with a minimum of fifteen years in Illinois.

3. Volunteer of the Year
Five years of service in Illinois

4. Professional of the Year
Ten years professional experience with five years in Illinois, professional involvement outside institution.

5. Trustee of the Year
Ten years volunteer trustee service in Illinois.

6. Legislator of the Year
Currently serving in the Illinois Legislature and supportive of museums in Illinois.
