Summary
The Historic Preservation Agency is an agency of the State of Illinois, created by statute, the Historic Preservation Agency Act (20 ILCS 3405)
While the Agency’s many programs vary in details and purpose, its over-arching purpose is to preserve and protect public and private historic properties and library collections, while at the same time making those properties and collections accessible to the public. Many additional details are available on the Agency’s home page: http://www.illinois-history.gov
Major highlights of the Agency’s programs include:
Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum
This facility uses today's cutting edge technology to showcase the
life of Abraham Lincoln. In addition, the Library continues
its century-long work as a resource for genealogists, historians,
and Lincoln scholars. The library houses the Agency's collection
of more than 12 million items of Illinois history. The museum combines
scholarship and showmanship to communicate the amazing life and
