This guide was compiled by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency in 2002 as a courtesy to Illinois residents who seek assistance in their historic preservation projects beyond the scope of what the Agency can normally provide. It outlines resources available at the time of creation that appeared to be useful or helpful in preservation-related projects, and does not necessarily endorse those resources or guarantee their availability or applicability to the project in question. We have made every effort to be as thorough as possible, but there are likely resources available beyond those listed here, especially at the local level, and those wishing to do preservation work are urged to search for them. There are many funds available only to government entities, which they then distribute to their residents. Local phone books and libraries are very valuable sources of information.
